Case study · Jewelry website design

Buying Jewelry Is an Experience. Kalam Jewelers' Website Treats It Like One.

In a Jackson Heights showroom, a 22K necklace has no fixed price. It depends on that day's gold rate, and on a conversation across the counter. The website had to learn to sell the same way.

Getting there came down to one button.

The shop

A showroom that prices by the day

Kalam Jewelers sells certified 22K and 24K gold and premium-quality diamond jewelry from its showroom in Jackson Heights, New York.

Gold and diamond prices move with the daily market rate, so nothing is sold on a fixed price tag. A customer asks about a piece, and the sale becomes a consultation, often in person at the counter.

A standard online shop
ProductCartCheckout
  • A fixed price online, which can be wrong by tomorrow
  • No room for the consultation a gold sale needs
  • Kalam's previous site also loaded slowly and looked dated
How Kalam sells
A pieceA questionA conversation
  • The price is given on the day, at the day's rate
  • Every sale starts with a customer asking about a piece
  • The decision is made with the jeweler, often at the counter

A faster checkout would not have closed that gap. The website needed to work the way the counter does.

What changed

The checkout came out. A Price Inquiry went in.

Invento rebuilt the site on WordPress from the ground up and wrote two custom WordPress plugins of its own.

1Catalog mode

A Price Inquiry on every piece

Visitors browse the full collection by category, filter by price and sort by popularity, rating or newness. There is no add-to-cart. Each piece carries a Price Inquiry button instead.

A tap opens WhatsApp with the message already written, naming the piece and linking to it. The conversation starts where it would at the counter: with the piece in question.

What Kalam needed

A WhatsApp Price Inquiry on every piece, for jewelry priced on the day

What Invento built

2Facebook Reels

The shop's reels, on the homepage

Kalam already posts video reels on Facebook. The second plugin brings them onto the homepage, so visitors see the shop's own videos without leaving the site.

  • A carousel on the homepage
  • View counts shown on every reel
  • Displayed natively, not through a generic embed

The project in brief

Kalam Jewelers, a 22K and 24K gold and diamond jeweler in Jackson Heights, New York, needed a website that sells the way its showroom does: by consultation, at the day's gold price. In May 2026 Invento rebuilt the site on WordPress and WooCommerce with two custom plugins. A catalog-mode plugin replaces add-to-cart and checkout with a WhatsApp Price Inquiry on every piece, and a Facebook Reels plugin shows the shop's reels on the homepage.

Ask first, then talk. The website now works the way the counter always has.

Questions about price-on-inquiry jewelry websites

Why do some jewelry websites show a Price Inquiry instead of a price?
Gold and diamond prices move with the daily market rate. For a jeweler like Kalam Jewelers, which sells 22K and 24K gold by consultation, a fixed online price can be out of date by the next day, so each piece carries a Price Inquiry and the price is given in conversation.
What is WooCommerce catalog mode, and when does a store need it?
Catalog mode keeps a WooCommerce store's products on show but removes add-to-cart and checkout. It suits businesses that sell by quote or consultation. On Kalam Jewelers' site a custom catalog mode plugin replaces the checkout with a WhatsApp Price Inquiry on every product, so visitors browse the full collection and ask about a piece rather than buy it online.
How does a WhatsApp Price Inquiry button work?
The button opens WhatsApp with a message already written that names the piece and links to it, so the inquiry starts with the right item.
How long did the Kalam Jewelers website take to build?
One month, in May 2026: discovery, a competitor and UX review, the WordPress build with both custom plugins and the product catalog, then cross-device testing and launch.
